Conservative Measures

Conservative measures can be taken, such as weight loss and medications, when it comes to vaginal or uterine issues. This can improve symptoms and in some cases, help to avoid surgery. Please feel free to get in contact with us today if you are experiencing symptoms.

Conservative Measures Available to Patients:

  • Weight Loss: can lead to a reduction of the symptom of stress incontinence.
  • Reduced Caffeine Intake (less coffee, tea or chocolate intake) may see a reduction in irritable bladder symptoms such as frequency and urgency.
  • Chest Conditions: will exacerbate the symptom of stress incontinence. Their treatment will reduce incontinence.
  • Vaginal Oestrogens: May improve the symptoms of frequency, nocturia, urgency and the condition of the vaginal skin (mucosa). They have been of no proven benefit for urinary incontinence.
  • Medications: Many medications may adversely affect bladder function. Best researched are fluid tablets (diuretics) and some bladder pressure medications such as Minipress.
  • Physiotherapy: Works best if the incontinence is mild to moderate in severity and stress incontinence is the main symptom.
